It’s official, Hoekstra is in!
According to the American Conservative Union, Michigan’s most conservative Congressman, Pete Hoekstra is in the running for Governor.
I believe Hokestra will offer a strong Conservative voice in Michigan politics that has been lacking for the past several years.

Glenn Clark’s fabulous “Showdown in Motown”
The 8th,9th, 11th, 12th and 14th district committees are hosting a “Showdown in Motown,” featuring the GOP candidates for Secretary of State.
I did take note with the fact that the former National Committeeman Chuck Yob was asked to moderate the event and Holly Hughes was asked to serve as the Master of Cermonies.
The current National Committee Keith Butler does not appear to have any official role in the event and I cant help but wonder if it was on purpose?
Actually, I don’t wonder, I believe the answer to that to be yes. What else can one expect from someone who has no job other than to run for and control the 9th District Committee.
The details for the event are as follows:
Date: Monday, March 30, 2009; 6:30 P.M. Social Hour; 7:30 P.M. Event Start
Where: Trott Financial Center (31440 Northerwestern Hwy, Farmington Hills)
Disgruntled precinct delegate
This evening I received an email from a Carl Hoffman a precinct delegate chastising Ron Weiser and Rick Snyder for being liberal.
In his email Hoffman says that “That’s why I am concerned to learn that our State Party Chairman Ron Weiser recruited pro-choice, pro-gay marriage, “moderate Republican” Rick Snyder to run for Governor.”
I’m not sure what little information we have on Snyder can possibly mean everything Hoffman claims above, but it does certainly raise a few red flags.
Hoffman closes his email with, “If we stand united, we can prevent liberals like Rick Snyder and Ron Weiser from taking over our party and leading us further into the wilderness.”
Hoekstra to announce intentions on Monday
Hoekstra to decide on run for governor
Mark Hornbeck / Detroit News Lansing Bureau
Following poll results showing him among the early leaders for the Republican nomination for governor in 2010, Congressman Peter Hoekstra strongly hinted he’ll announce on Monday that he will run to succeed term-limited Gov. Jennifer Granholm.
The Holland Republican, who has said he won’t run for a 10th term in the 2nd Congressional District in two years, said Wednesday on Detroit talk radio that he’ll spend the day Monday announcing his decision on whether to run, and it’s reasonable to assume he will be a candidate. He has hired Identity Marketing & Public Relations of Bingham Farms to coordinate his announcement tour.
Hoekstra said the question is, “in a blue state, how do you put together a coalition that can win? I think it’s very, very doable.”

Poll on Gov race
Poll results released earlier this month by Marketing Resource Group of Lansing had Hoekstra running second in a GOP primary at 17 percent behind Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson (22 percent) and ahead of Attorney General Mike Cox (15 percent) and Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land (12 percent). Source: DET NEWS
South Bend-Ft Wayne Bishop Says NO to Obama
His Excellency Bishop John M D'Arcy
Last week, our Lady’s University, Notre Dame had announced that Barack Obama was going to give the speech for their commencement ceremony.
Shortly after there phone lines were jammed up with angry alumni and donors demanding that Obama not be allowed to speak at a Catholic University because of his position on fetal stem cell research and infanticide.
Today, the Bishop of the Diocese of South Bend/Fort Wayne wrote a letter to the University saying that he will not be attending this years commencements because a politician who fervently supports abortion is going to attend. You can read his letter posted on the diocesan website here.
Dem Chair is a hack

I just got done watching the DVR’d Off the Record featuring Mark Brewer and that man is a hack. First off Tim Skubick asked him to give one sentence about the various Republican candidates prospects in the 2010 Gubernatorial election and he went on a tirade a baseless claims.
He said that Terri Land’s husbands business practices need to be looked into and implied that there is something afoul. Well Mr Brewer, prove it!
He said Mike Cox has some sort of illegal slush fund; prove it!
He said Pete Hoekstra is vulnerable because he is a Bush-bot. Why is it that President Bush is responsible for everything bad that has happened in Michigan, but no blame at all can be give to Granholm who is finishing up her second term?
Mr Brewer, you have had 7 years to prove your allegations. Shut you pie hole, or prove it. It’s bad enough people have to listen to your irritating raspy voice, but when idiocy is coming out of it, that makes the matters far worse.
What I am interested in seeing via statistical empirical evidence, is how EVERY thing is Bush’s fault and none is Granholm’s.
Zandstra “interview” with Synder laughable
Did any of you get the chance to read Jerry Zandstra’s inerview with Rick Snyder?
Does it seem to anyone else that John Yob wrote the whole thing and bought Zandstra a value meal in return for him slapping his name on it to give him pro-life street credit.
I was once a very vocal supporter of Zandstra’s…you can call the Right to Life and ask them what I had to say when they removed their endorsement of him.
First off being the leader of a pro-life organization, he should be vigilant before offering his voice in support of someone.
Secondly, isn’t Snyder’s position on “gay issues,” in favor of an alternative contract between two adults in conflict with Zandstra’s very own branch of Protestantism.
You can sometimes admire a simpleton like Michelle Voorheis who thinks any person who talks with a lisp is going to hell, but at least she is consistent.
Wake up Jerry, you are damaging your good name.
RightMichigan.com VS Syder for Gov.
Snyder who? I’ll tell you, but you’re probably not going to like it…
Online Discussion with Jerry Zandstra and Rick Snyder
A few notes on Rick Snyder’s various (and varied) responses
I couple of things occured to me after I read these articles. One was why isn’t John Yob sticking with his long time patron, Secretary of State Land in her campaign for Governor?
This is obviously going to be a brutal primary. Snyder, who is from SE Michigan and has a big W. Michigan name working for him, John Yob. Snyder will be competing for votes with Terri Land and Pete Hoesktra in W Michigan which is their base.
Yobs move to back Snyder can be based on one of two things; money or he doesn’t believe Terri Land (if she makes it through the primary) is capable of winning the general.
One thing people need to remember when being enticed by the various campaigns is who has been with us for the past 7 yrs speaking at our events and making sure our disrict and county parties have money?
At first glance, Snyders commitment to the GOP looks soft at best.
A.G. Mike Cox in the Bay City St Patricks Parade
This afternoon, Mike Cox met with Young Republicans from Saginaw, Bay City and Midland Counties where they volunteered to walk in the St Patricks day parade.
I guess statistically, the parade is the second or third largest of it’s kind in the state.
As we were in line waiting for the parade to get started, the cupid shuffle was being played right next to us, so I started to do the dance associated with the song and I looked back and was amazed that Cox was also doing the dance with all of the volunteers.
Cox was very well received and as far as I remember is the only state-wide Republican elected official to walk in the past decade. (although I’ll have to look into that)
At the end of the parade there were a couple of teenagers fighting and the police tazed one of them almost immediately causing his death. A bad end to a great Bay City tradition.
