Pete Vitale running for Youth Chair
Sources have confirmed this evening that controversial former Oakland University College Republican Chair, Pete Vitale is running for Michigan Republican Youth Chair.
Pete’s friends in the Yob faction have advised him to play it low key because they know that all sorts of people will start speaking up with regards to his past misdeeds.
I am going the begin this by saying I know not many of you have heard of Pete, but you probably have heard of Justin Zatkoff. They are connected at the hip.
Pete got his start by Chairing the Oakland College Republicans. Shortly thereafter when his buddy Justin Zatkoff was locked in a contentious race for reelection as College Republican Chair Pete agreed to serve on the credentials committee to make sure Zatkoff had the numbers to win, even if he didn’t.
Pete and Zatkoffs credentialing fiasco led to a split in the CRs where the largest chapter in the state at MSU formally withdrew from the organization. A half dozen other chapters followed suit and the organization crumbled. There was NO Statewide coordinated youth activities this election through the CRs led by Zatkoff and Vitale.
If delegates to the Michigan Republican convention in February want to make an informed decision just talk to any CR that has been around for a while. They will be hard pressed to find one that thinks Pete did a good job. I would wager most would even go as far to credit him directly with the destruction of the organization.
Pete is also quoted in the Detroit News criticizing the State Party and President Bush. And perpetuating the lie that people in his faction were spreading to news outlets saying the State Party was broke in an attempt to embarrass the leadership.
Pete, we believe is also responsible for passing out this flyer with his best buddy Justin Zatkoff at a tailgate with Mitt Romney during the MSU, UofM game. He still has not denied it to this day.
Pete’s involvement with the CRs was destructive and he has no involvement with the YRs. In fact a source has told me that he doesn’t attend their meetings because it conflicts with his hair treatment schedule.
If you think Matt Hall has done a great job with the Youth Chair position, then by all means vote for Pete Vitale. They are from the same crooked branch.

Ron Weiser announces run for MRP Chair
Fellow Republicans,
While our opinions may differ as to why we performed so poorly in Michigan in the last two elections, we can all agree that the experience has left our party unsettled. Why we didn’t win is not as important as what changes must take place to win in the future.
As in all endeavors, leadership is key. This is why I am running to be our next State Chair. Many other fine Republicans have thrown their hats into the same ring, and each has attributes we would like to have in our next chair, but circumstances demand our next chair possess a unique combination of characteristics to successfully lead our party back to a majority and elect a governor. I believe I am best equipped to lead us to these goals.
Our chair must be the CEO of the party. They must effectively and efficiently delegate and demand accountability from the party staff, and diligently serve the thousands of hard-working grassroots activists and volunteers throughout the state. Having built a successful business which I started in 1968 that now employs nearly 1,000 I know how important teamwork and communication is in strengthening an organization.
Our chair must lead under the banner of a unified message and a common voice: north, south, east, and west – we all belong to the same Michigan Republican Party. While I am not a politician, I am a conservative who believes in being a team player and involving all of our grassroots activists. My political experiences as an early supporter of John Engler, a precinct delegate in the 90’s, a finance chair for the party, Michigan chair for President George W. Bush, Ambassador to Slovakia, and a national co-chair for John McCain and the RNC have given me the opportunity to work and build consensus with Republicans throughout the state. I have also met many of you as I helped my wife Eileen successfully campaign for the State Board of Education in 1998 and again in her effort in 2006.
Our chair must be comfortable speaking for the party. Having served as an Ambassador for President Bush, I effectively worked with the press representing our country and promoting its ideals and policies.
Finally, our chair must have the time and energy to fully commit to unifying, empowering, and growing our base and ensuring that we have the organization and financial resources necessary to win in 2010. As a retired businessman with the full support of my family and friends, I will devote 100% of my time to leading our party to victory.
Michigan is at a crossroads. We as Republicans must work together to ensure that the right people are in place to lead Michigan back to growth and prosperity.
I ask for your help in making this happen. Please consider supporting me as your next State Chair.
Sincerely,
Ron

Sterling Corp. taking legal action against MRP Chair candidate Dan Tollis
From MIRS News:

Sterling Announces Legal Action Against Tollis
The Sterling Corporation yesterday issued a statement regarding legal action the company is taking against Dan TOLLIS for comments he made about Sterling in an e-mail (See “MRP Infighting Under Way,” 11/07/08).
http://mirsnews.com/capsule.php?gid=1118#16932
In that e-mail, Tollis alleged that Anuzis and Jeff TIMMER, an executive director for the state party “funneled millions of dollars to the Sterling Corporation . . . “
Steve LINDER, a partner in the firm released the following statement about the matter.
“The professionals at The Sterling Corporation are proud of the work we do on behalf of all our clients, both inside and out of the political arena. We stand 100 percent behind our performance and fully expect to be judged on that performance. It’s for that reason that we are not sitting by while false and defamatory statements are made about our company, our work or the people who work at Sterling. Dan Tollis, and anyone else who decides to follow his lead, need to understand that party politics and defamation are not and should not be the same thing.”
Anuzis jumps into RNC chair race
Anuzis jumps into RNC chair race
From NBC’s Chuck Todd, Carrie Dann, and Abby Livingston
Michigan Republican Party Chair Saul Anuzis watched his state slip from a tossup to a 16-point slam-dunk for Barack Obama, after the McCain campaign dropped its ads there. Some would call him an endangered species — a Republican in a heavy manufacturing state north of the Mason-Dixon line. He recently predicted in a blog post that “when our party once again adheres to our core values and beliefs, and can again demonstrate to America that we can be trusted on those issues, we will make a comeback – stronger than ever.”
And today, he’s announcing his intention to try to lead that comeback, becoming the first official candidate for the chairmanship of the Republican National Committee.
In a party relegated to the South and patches of the Western Plains on November 4th, Anuzis may end up being the only candidate for the post who hails from a northern blue state.
A former tech wizard who Twitters, Facebooks, and blogs on his website “That’s Saul, Folks!” the Michigan Republican hopes to run as an ideological and tactical innovator who can bring the Republican Party into the 21st century. He announced his intention to run this afternoon via Twitter, Youtube, and emails to the RNC — all before a formal release to mainstream media sources.
“The country asked for change,” he told First Read this morning before formally announcing his bid as RNC leader, “And that was not just Democrats.”
Other than sluggishness on the technological front, Anuzis believes that the Republican Party has suffered because Americans’ trust in the brand has all but eroded. “We have to start walking the walk,” he said. “When we have members who vote for higher taxes, higher spending, get caught in scandals, we lose our credibility. We have to start having candidates talking about the issues that they have credibility on.”
The Michigan GOP chair since 2005, Anuzis hoped to steer the state back into the Republican fold for the first time since 1988. Economically hard-hit Michigan looked to be in play until the McCain campaign abandoned its efforts there in early October. Still, Anuzis says, his blue-state battle scars have readied him for the fight to recreate the Republican Party. “I’m coming from a state that has to fight for every vote in every election,” he says. “That’s how we are going to rebuild the GOP majority in America.”
Among other potential candidates for the RNC post are former Huckabee campaign manager Chip Saltsman, Florida Republican Party Chairman Jim Greer, South Carolina GOP leader Katon Dawson, and former presidential candidate Fred Thompson. Current RNC Chairman Mike Duncan also has signaled he may run for re-election in January.
Anuzis is a Reagan follower with an atypical background. He grew up in Detroit as the son of a member of the UAW. While paying his way through college at the University of Michigan at Dearborn, he himself joined a union, the Teamsters. His political interest was sparked in college during the ascension of Ronald Reagan, and in the 1980s, Anuzis went on to help build the modern Republican Party in Michigan.
In the 1990s, he left politics to own Quick Connect USA, a telecommunications firm providing local, long distance, VOIP, Internet, and data services to residential and small businesses throughout Michigan.
Although he is still chairman of the company, he gave up day-to-day operations when he returned to political activism. In 2007, he branched out from the Michigan chairmanship and was appointed to the Executive Committee of the Republican National Committee. He also served on the Committee on Arrangements for the 2008 Republican National Convention.

DeVos will not run in 2010
To My Friends and Supporters,
After considerable thought, prayer and consultation with Betsy and our family, I have concluded that my ability to impact the future of Michigan will be more significant at this time from outside government, instead of inside. So to allow me to do what I have always done best, that is to create jobs and opportunity in the private sector, I will not be a candidate for Governor in 2010.
This has been an especially difficult decision since so many of you have been encouraging of me, both during my prior campaign, but also since the 2006 election. Your encouragement and friendship have been tremendous gifts to me.
In order to be able to speak to you personally, I have posted a brief video message on the “Right Michigan” website which you can access directly by following the link below.
