Thompson Resigns & Withdraws Candidacy

January 30, 2007 at 5:35 am (Uncategorized)

Dear MFCR Executive Board:

I have come to the conclusion that I can no longer serve as an officer on the Michigan Federation of College Republicans Executive Board in good conscience. Over the last six months, it has gradually become apparent the organization completely lacks a conscience and being a person deeply guided by morals, I find this unacceptable. Instead of being an organization reflecting the morals of many members of our party, it is an organization filled with the cynical opportunistic elements of society who have nothing to contribute but everything to take.

Fundamentally, my involvement in politics has been geared at helping Republican candidates win elections and to advance our agenda. I have never really wanted a career or life in politics because I find politics filled with too much compromise. Anyone who knows me from my hometown would testify to the fact that I have always been interested in politics, but I have always wanted my principles to be observed first. The principles based off of my moral conscience are paramount and cannot be compromised. The attitude towards politics pursued by members of the Michigan Federation of College Republicans organization has caused a collision between my conscience and the nature of the organization. In this bout as in every other struggle involving my conscience and another force, the conscience is always the undisputed champion.

Seeing my conscience must always prevail, I announce my resignation as Michigan Federation of College Republicans First Vice Chairman and the withdrawal of my candidacy for Michigan Federation of College Republicans Co-Chairman. I will continue to be involved in politics on terms that do not interfere with my conscience. This way I can live in good conscience with my involvement.

Sincerely,

Ryan Thompson

Trevor’s CR Support

January 29, 2007 at 5:43 pm (Uncategorized)

Dear Friend:

As young conservatives concerned about the future of the Michigan Republican Party, we are asking you support Trevor Pittsley for youth chairman.

Trevor has the experience, dedication and commitment a youth chairman needs to work with the next generation. And unlike his opponent, Trevor has been endorsed and supported by College Republicans across the state. Some of the more than 120 young leaders supporting Trevor include:

- Albion College Republicans Chairman Mike Compagnoni
- CMU College Republicans Treasurer Joseph Corey
- Delta College Republicans Vice Chair Liberty Starkweather
- Delta College Republicans Political Director Leah Werth
- EMU College Republicans Chairman Derek Moss
- GVSU College Republicans Chairwoman Amanda Zaluckyj
- MSU College Republicans Chairman Jeff Wiggins
- U of M College Republicans Chairman Robert Scott
- WMU College Republicans member Tyler Whitney
- Steve Japinga, the uncontested candidate for chairman of the Michigan Federation of College Republicans

He is also supported by former Michigan Republican Party spokesman Nate Bailey and former state representative candidate John Knowles.

Our next youth chairman will need to work with all candidates in the 2008 presidential campaign. Unlike his opponent, Trevor is not an operative, and he has pledged to work with all White House hopefuls.

It’s time to have a youth chairman that is respected by young conservatives. We need someone with a fresh vision, someone who can get the job done – Michigan‘s young conservatives need new leadership.

We hope you will join us in supporting Trevor Pittsley for youth chairman at the state convention next month.

Sincerely,

Dennis Lennox II

Will Pro War Stance Hurt the GOP in ‘08

Will pro war stances hurt the GOP in ‘08?

Youth Chair Race Update

An anonymous email was sent out last night to state committee members from migopyouthunited@gmail.com about the youth chair race.

This appears to be a copy of an email that was sent out a couple of weeks ago, but apparently was not emailed to state committee members.

This time, the senders of the email made sure that the committee got a hold of it.

The email says that if Matt Hall couldn’t be trusted to support the President in 2004, so can he be trusted to help the nominee in 2008?

Attached to the letter is the alleged 2004 email in which Hall advocated the election of Constitution Party candidate Michael Peroutka for President rather than George W Bush.

I think you would have to look at disgruntled CRs to find the origins of the email rather than Trevor Pittsley.

I don’t suspect the emails will have much of an effect.

Happy Birthday to Senator Roger Kahn (R-Saginaw)

**The poll will conclude in 24hrs.**

MIGOP Chair Asks Hall to Stop Spreading Lies

Subject: Trevor Pittsley – Youth Chair Race
To: matthall@terrilynnland.com

It continues to come to my attention that more than one person on your team is spreading un-true rumors about Trevor. Although you and I haven’t talked about this directly, I did cover this with Chuck and Holly.

Trevor did a great job at the state party and was NOT fired…he did NOT have a drinking problem…and overall worked very well with our youth groups.
Both of you have different skill sets and styles to offer our party as a whole. Allowing these rumors to be spread by your supporters is NOT serving you well. ..nor is it right.

Go out there and make your case…I have talked to both of you about your goals and ambitions in this role and look forward to working with either one of you. If there are legitimate concerns about a candidates character, that’s one thing…but knowlingly spreading false rumors should not be tolerated by any of us in party leadership.
Please take the steps necessary to correct this wrong.<!– D(["mb","

Keith Butler

January 23, 2007 at 5:55 pm (Uncategorized)

Keith Butler is now serving on the McCain Presidential Committee

Carlson set March 24th for MFCR Convention; Ryan Thompson and Mike Compagnoni do not support the date:

Dan Carlson:

Moving the MFCR Convention to March 24 will disenfranchise the Hillsdale College Republicans and probably other chapters because we are on Spring Break. Pursuing an election date when chapters knowingly cannot attend goes against the spirit of the Republican Party and our democratic principles. We have a difference on support for Presidential candidates, but basic principles of democracy are at stake and if you fail to stop this disenfranchising measure.

Sincerely,
Ryan Thompson
Chairman Hillsdale College Republicans
First Vice Chairman Michigan Federation of College Republicans
Students for Romney Michigan
Email – rcthompon@hillsdale.edu

cc: Saul Anuzis

Ryan/Dan:

It is clear what Ryan says is right. Disenfranchising one of the biggest
chapters is bad business. Joanie is right in her email too. The Students
for Life are a good 1/3 to 1/2 of the MFCR. We need to find a date that
works. The day that screws the least number of people out of going will
be best.

Lets press all chairs for school schedules and make this work. We can’t
just say “no” and bicker; we have to find an alternative.

Intentionally scheduling an event that disallows candidates and schools
to be present because they are away or on break is a serious charge that
I will not make. If you both finally want a legitimate convention (I’m
sure you’ll all agree it’ll be the first in awhile), make it work for
everyone.

So: Get a calendar, get a pencil, get all the school’s breaks on the
calendar and go from there. Forgive me if this has already been done,
but clearer and more transparent planning is better for such a
contentious issue. We are solutions oriented people, lets find one we
can all agree on.

Regards.

Mike Compagnoni
Chairman
Albion College Republicans
MCC10@albion.edu

Dear Ryan,

In response to your letter below, the date change was proposed by me in
order to accommodate the Students for Life conference. I did not know
that you were on Spring break during that time period, but groups are
always either coming and going from Spring break every year- it is
impossible to work around every schedule. Since it is on a weekend, I
hope that most of your group will be able to attend, whereas if we don’t
move the convention, the entire pro-life contingent of the MFCR would be
unable to attend.

Pro-lifers are essential to the MFCR and to the entire Republican Party.
I’m sure you agree that both groups benefit when SFLM and MFCR work
together. While I understand your concerns, the date change is in the
best interest of the students both groups serve and should pass. You
are free to disagree with me and to vote against it if you wish- in the
spirit of democracy.

Sincerely,

Joanie Barrett
President, Students for Life of Michigan
Second Vice-Chairman, Michigan Federation of College Republicans

Note: when Sam Moore ran for Chairman he put the date of convention at a very inconvenient time to suppress the opponent. Now we are going through the same thing and it is very obvious why this date was chosen.

Walberg stated, “I am glad to join with Matt Hall in advancing the Republican principles of lower taxes, energy independence, second amendment rights, and the right to life among Michigan’s youth.”

MFCR Race’s Heat Up

January 19, 2007 at 2:03 am (Uncategorized)

**UPDATE** Todd Jennings is not running for 1st Vice Chair

Chair

Steve Japinga (MSU) is officially the only candidate running for Chairman. Although we think that Dan will eventually be back in the running since his minions have resurfaced to run against Japinga’s team.

Co Chair

In the race for Co Chair there is Jeff Wiggins (MSU) and Ryan Thompson (Hillsdale) both have extensive political resumes. Both have worked hard, and both would be good candidates. Wiggins supports Congressman Tom Tancredo for President and Thompson is neck deep in the Mitt Romney campaign.

Both have served as chairmen at their schools and both are currently officers on the state executive board. Wiggins has shown that he is not beholden to Dan Carlson with his recent endorsement of Trevor Pittsley for Michigan Republican Youth Chair and also by his refusal to support John McCain for President.

1st Vice Chairman

The 1st Vice Chair race appears to be a three way race although some candidates appear more serious then others. The race is between Amanda Zaluckyj, (GVSU) Todd Jennings, (GVSU) and Justin Zatkoff (UofM)

Zaluckyj has been the Chair of the GVSU College Republicans for the past two years and has also served as a DeVos for Governor Intern. Her facebook group for 1st vice chair has 67 members.

Little is known of Jennings candidacy. His facebook group says that he is running to prevent Zaluckyj from winning. There is rumor that Jennings is running at Justin Zatkoffs request to split the Grand Valley vote. Emails to Jennings were not returned.

Justin Zatkoff (UofM) has been hyper active this past election in the DeVos campaign and as Executive Director of the MFCR. Zatkoffs site talks about what he is going to do with CRs and not what he has done in the past. He has also designed a new website for the state organization (Im not sure why the old one cannot be used) www.mfcr.rockonstudios.com

2nd Vice Chair

The 2nd Vice Chair seat appears to be between Robbie Rankey (Ferris) and Mikhail Fedewa (WMU)

Robbie Rankey has been active in politics since high school when he got his start fighting the school board to allow a Teenage Republican club. After he started going to Ferris he took over the CR chapter their and they have grown extensively since then.

Michael Fedewa who appears to be new to the scene is running for the 2nd vice chair slot too. His facebook profile doesn’t say anything about what he has done in politics or what he will do when elected. We suspect that Fedewa is a last minute fill in by Dan Carlson or Matt Hall, a charge he denies.

Treasurer

For Treasurer we have Dennis Lennox (CMU) and Lauren Migliore (Kalamazoo).

Lennox who has been an outspoken conservative activist and is the Chair of Young Americans for Freedom at CMU. He has been a voice of reform on his campus and would be a much needed voice on the state executive board as Treasurer.

Migliore who is very active in the students for life is also vying for the position of treasurer. We fear that her connection to Carlson will hinder growth of the organization. Also as a SFL officer she is said to have opposed the prolife petition drive last year. She has one issue to focus on and she got it wrong.

Secretary

Paula Barrett is the only candidate for Secretary that I am aware of. There isn’t much information about her on her facebook group.

If there are any other candidates or any of this information is not accurate please feel free to contact me and I will fix it. cheneygun@gmail.com

Join Tancredo on Myspace

January 18, 2007 at 9:59 pm (Uncategorized)

Hello to all my MySpace friends,

As you may know, I have come out publicly with my intentions on setting up an exploratory committee to run for the presidency in 2008. I am touched by all the messages and comments I have received on here. I’m an extremely busy man, and I apologize that I just don’t have the time to respond to all of your comments/questions. If you would like to help me out, I would ask one simple (yet, important) favor. I read in an article from the WSJ that over 60 million people visit myspace each month. I currently have 458 friends, but would love to see that number skyrocket. (That damn John Edwards has over 7,000 friends) If each of you would post a bulletin to all of your friends telling them to check out my page and add me to their friends list, I would be very thankful. As my nephew has taught me, MySpace can be a very productive campaign tool. Once again, if you do not wish to post a bulletin, I still welcome you as my friend and I truly appreciate your support. And if we can get this site to become one of the most viewed pages on MySpace….well, let’s just say that could possibly have a tremendous impact in ‘08.
Thank you very much for reading this bulletin and I wish you all the best in this new year.

God bless,

Tom Tancredo

Camp Named Romney Liaison
U.S. Rep. Dave CAMP (R-Midland), along with Rep. Howard “Buck” McKEON (R-Calif.), were named as co-House Congressional Liaisons for former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt ROMNEY’s likely presidential bid.

U.S. Rep. Jim McCRERY (R-La.) is the head House Congressional Liaison for Romney’s presidential exploratory committee. The positions put the three at the lead of Romney’s outreach efforts in the U.S. House of Representatives.

“Congressmen Camp and McKeon have demonstrated a strong commitment to doing what’s right for their constituents and the American people,” said Romney. “With their help, we will find new solutions for the new generation of challenges confronting our nation.”

ARLINGTON, VA – U.S. Senator John McCain’s exploratory committee today announced that Oakland County Clerk Ruth Johnson would serve as the Oakland County Chairman and serve on the Statewide Steering Committee should the Arizona Senator decide to seek the presidency.

McCain stated he was very appreciative of Johnson’s support. “I look forward to working with Ruth Johnson in putting together a strong team in Oakland County and across the state,” said Senator McCain. “She knows what it takes to win votes in Oakland County and I value her leadership.”

Matt Hall Email Returns to Haunt Him

January 16, 2007 at 5:54 pm (Uncategorized)

Fellow Republican,

In just a few short weeks, our Party will meet in Grand Rapids for the State Convention where we elect our Party leadership for the next two years—the men and women who will direct us as we select our next presidential nominee and take on the extremely important task of regaining our majority in the Michigan House of Representatives.

As the leaders of Republican youth organizations, we and thousands of our members have stuffed envelopes, placed yard signs, walked in parades, volunteered at fundraisers, made literally hundreds of thousands of phone calls and knocked on countless doors. Republican youth have become a fixture in campaigns, providing the much-needed manpower necessary to reach our friends and neighbors on behalf of our candidates. This is a task we readily accept and a role that will become even more critical as we seek to flip Michigan to the Republican column once again in 2008.

Leading us in this effort will be the next Youth Vice Chairman of the Michigan Republican Party, whom you will have the privilege of electing at the State Convention in February. While we will work with this person throughout the course of the next campaign, not all of us will have the ability to cast a ballot in this race. That’s why we are writing to you today to urge you to carefully consider the two candidates in the race, Trevor Pittsley and Matt Hall, before you cast your ballot on February 10. <!– D(["mb","

\n

\n

We think that we can all agree that we need a leader who is dedicated to our Party and our candidates, who is devoted to building, increasing and strengthening our organizations and who is committed to a Republican victory from the top of the ticket to the bottom. \n Only one candidate in this race meets that bill.

\n

\n

Enclosed is an email sent by Matt Hall during the thick of the 2004 presidential campaign. While we were all working to re-elect President George W. Bush along side you and thousands of other grassroots activists, Matt Hall was urging College Republicans \nto not support President Bush in his re-election efforts! He urged the chairs not even to vote for the President because he "…doesn't care about us."

\n

\n

And now, Matt Hall wants to be the statewide leader for our Republican youth – the voice and face of our organizations.

\n

\n

Debate on the issues is one thing, and we think it is actually healthy for the Party. But vocally and publicly working against our incumbent President is a blatant slap in the face to each of us, each of our members, and each of you who worked so hard on behalf of President Bush and our Party and should disqualify anyone from any position of leadership in the Michigan Republican Party. \n If Matt Hall wanted to support a third party candidate, that's his right, but he has no place doing it as Chairman of the College Republicans.

\n

\n

Trevor Pittsley, on the other hand, is a leader we can trust to fight along side us. As a current College Republican and former State Party staff member, he has a record of doing just that, and he's just the type of leader we need to make sure we have an energized youth base that our candidates can count on in 2008. \n",1] ); //–>

Fellow MFCR’s,

I also echo Chairman Zimmerman’s demands not to endorse Howard Dean for President in the Democratic Primaries. Instead, I strongly encourage you to wait until November and vote for Constitution Party Candidate Michael Peroutka for President!! Peroutka will fight to have true conservative ideas in the White House. He will not only oppose gay marriage but act upon his opposition. Furthermore, he will deport all illegal immigrants from the country rather than offer them American jobs. I promise you that Peroutka would actually cut federal spending, and balance our budget.

Under President Bush we are revisiting the times of LBJ’s Great Society we need somebody who has read and understands the constitution in the White House. That man is not President Bush, but Michael Anthony Peroutka. President Bush has stood by and allowed leftists to remove the ten commandments from Roy Moore’s Alabama courthouse, I guarentee you that Peroutka would not allow this to happen. Finally, President Bush has failed to stand up and fight for conservative justices on federal courts. Michael Peroutka would not make such a passive effort, he would invest all of his political chips in getting true conservatives on the courts.

President Bush doesn’t care about us, all he cares about are liberal voters. He believes he has backed us into a corner with no way out, and its time to show him and the republican party never to do this to Conservative voters again!

VOTE PEROUTKA 2004!
