Move to Oust Anuzis?

October 31, 2006 at 4:05 am (Uncategorized)

Move to Oust Anuzis?

On the eve of next week’s elections, rumblings within the Michigan Republican Party suggest a move to oust current party chair Saul ANUZIS may be quietly unfolding and National Committeeman Chuck YOB may be behind the effort, according to one party source.

Yob denied the allegation, telling MIRS, “We deal with one election at a time…I’ll get involved when the time comes.”

Anuzis, for his part, contended that he is focused on winning next Tuesday adding, “Anyone focusing on the chairman’s race at this point in time should re-evaluate their priorities.

“An Oakland County source confirmed, “There’s a ground swell toward other options” as some grassroots members of the party are “dissatisfied” with Anuzis on several fronts.

Part of this is apparently driven by presidential politics as the U.S. Sen. John McCAIN (R-Ariz.) forces lock horns with the Massachusetts Gov. Mitt ROMNEY faction of the party. There is the feeling in some circles that Anuzis is pushing the later at the expense of the former.

Some West Michigan Republicans were also upset with a mailing from the party that some believed introduced the race card into the 75th District House race with a flier in which the Democratic candidate’s face allegedly appeared darkened (See “No Negative Mailers Here, Please,” 11/19/06). Republican candidate Tim DOYLE denounced the pamphlet and the Detroit Free Press ran a critical column on the mailing on Sunday.

One source said Anuzis has the wrong attitude on the role of the party chair. “He is not supposed to pick winners and losers” in an August primary. A party chair should promote a “level playing field.” Recent U.S. Senate candidate Jerry ZANDSTRA said Anuzis did not do that in his race against Mike BOUCHARD and Keith BUTLER.

There are also unconfirmed reports that Secretary of State Terri Lynn LAND may have a hand in this “Oust Saul” movement, as well, although every one says the focus is on beating Gov. Jennifer GRANHOLM. Land is known to favor Kent County activist David DISHAW for the post, but her office said Land “finds this rumor rather odd in that I was first to support Saul Anuzis for chairman.

“Yob, who favors McCain for president, indicated the report card on the chairman cannot be written until after the election. Asked about a conference call slated for Wednesday with party officials, Yob confirmed the call, but indicated it has nothing to do with Anuzis.

MIRS asked if that meant Yob was happy with the chair? “I don’t know about that,” he responded while asserting, “I have never lied to a reporter.”

At least two other well-connected party sources have heard about these murmurings, but would not be quoted reflecting the delicate nature of the story.

Anuzis told MIRS, “I am concentrating on one and only one thing … that’s Nov. 7. It’s too early for presidential politics. We can’t control personal agendas.”

If the GOP wins next week, the dump-Anuzis movement may be stopped in its tracks. But given all these sub rosa lamentations about his performance, the same may not hold true if the GOP takes a bath.

Hi Shawn,

Unfortunately, I am not at all interested in seeing John McCain or any other person who does not value human life run for President in 2008. He does not have my support and he certainly doesn’t have the support of the very youngest people since he thinks its acceptable to kill them and experiment on their remains. Thanks for the invitation though, keep me in mind if you choose to support somebody who cares to defend innocent unborn and embryo life.

For the babies,
Joanie

Kahn vs Williams

October 26, 2006 at 7:24 am (Uncategorized)

The Michigan Republican Party sent out the above mail piece in Saginaw against Rep Carl Williams who is running against Roger Kahn. My biggest issue with this piece is that they assume that voters are dumb. I mean the guy on the right is clearly the molester.

Farhat "toast"

October 26, 2006 at 6:18 am (Uncategorized)

Insiders told MIRS News that Representative David Farhat (R-Muskegon) is “toast” and Senator Gerald Van Woerkom (R-Muskegon) is safe.

Van Woerkom is in one of the most competitive Senate districts in the state.

Last year Democrats attacked Farhat and a couple of other Republican legislators for being Betsy DeVos’ puppets on a string.

It still appears as if though Republicans will maintain control of the legislature after November 7th.

Most competitive House races:
Rep Leslie Mortimer v Mike Simpson
Rep Rick Baxter v Martin Griffin
Rep David Farhat v Mary Valentine

Most Competitive Senate races:
Sen. Tom George v Alexander Lipsey
Rep Roger Kahn v Rep Carl Williams
John Pappageorge v Andy Levin

Mark Kennedy’s Ballsy TV Ad

October 26, 2006 at 6:07 am (Uncategorized)

Mark Kennedy, Minnesota Republican Senate candidate recently ran a ballsy TV ad in which he says something like: I know a lot of your disagree with me on the Iraq war, but I think we need to stay the course.

He must have missed the Rove memo to discontinue use of the phrase “stay the course.” We support Mr Kenndy showing some back bone when so few candidates have any.

Litte Debbie Supports Outsourcing

October 23, 2006 at 8:18 pm (Uncategorized)

STABENOW HYPOCRISY ON OUTSOURCING

Based on Their Own Criteria, the Stabenow Campaign has Outsourced Jobs for Years
Oakland County, MI – Today Matt Godlewski, campaign manager for Mike Bouchard for U.S. Senate, highlighted numerous cases where, by their own criteria, Debbie Stabenow’s campaign has outsourced jobs for years.
“Debbie Stabenow’s argument that every consumer is an ‘outsourcer’ is beyond ridiculous and it’s a clear sign that she’s up against the ropes struggling to hold on to the only job she’s ever ‘fought’ for – her own,” said Godlewski. “Fortunately, Michigan voters understand that it’s time to outsource Debbie Stabenow’s rhetoric and start getting results for a change.”
A television advertisement from Stabenow falsely claimed that Jackson National Life Insurance outsourced jobs, when in truth all Jackson National did was license a software product from a company that outsourced jobs. Bouchard serves as an independent board member for one of Jackson National’s variable funds.
By their own logic, the Stabenow campaign is guilty of outsourcing because they have done business with the following companies known to have outsourced jobs:

American Express
AT&T Wireless
Bank of America
Best Buy
Citigroup
Delta Air Lines
Northwest Airlines
Orbitz
Qwest Communications
SBC Communications
SunTrust Banks
Travelocity
United Airlines
Verizon
Xerox

Stabenow’s campaign lists disbursements to these companies in its FEC report from January 1, 2001 through July 19, 2006. (Federal Election Commission Website, www.fec.gov, Accessed October 21, 2006) According to CNN’s Lou Dobbs, “These are U.S. companies either sending American jobs overseas, or choosing to employ cheap overseas labor, instead of American workers.” (CNN Website, Accessed October 21, 2006)

The Day After

October 23, 2006 at 6:47 pm (Uncategorized)

On November 8th I think we will wake up to news that Nacy Pelosi is going to be the new Speaker of the House. Their are three strong Republican seats that are expected to go to the Democrats… Mark Foley R-FL (resign), Jim Kolbe R-AZ (retire), and Tom DeLays R-TX (resign). The general concensus among pundits is that Republican losses begin at 20.

Democrats are also polling better then their Republican opponents in Republican districts in Indiana, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Iowa, Ohio and New York.

I think that Republicans will lose seats in the Senate as well but not enough to give the Democrats a majority.

Probable Democrat pickups:
Rick Santorum (R-PA)
Mike DeWine (R-OH)
Lincoln Chafee (R-RI)
Conrad Burns (R-MT)

Tossup:
Jim Talent (R-MO)
Bill Firsts Open Seat: Bob Corker (R-TN)
Harold Ford Jr (D-TN)

Outlook: President Bush learns how to use his veto pen.

While the Republicans are trying to localize all of their elections the Democrats are succeeding in nationalizing them.

In every debate that I have watched the Democrats connect the Republicans with George Bush and use the term “outsourcing” as much as they can.

Dennis Lennox Smashes Left Wing Scum

October 19, 2006 at 8:52 pm (Uncategorized)

CMU students, panel spar over affirmative action
By Mónica Guzmán
10/19/2006

“Racists go home,” Central Michigan University sophomore Dennis Lennox II shouted as he and a small group of students in support of Proposal 2 faced a much larger crowd of those in favor of affirmative action on CMU’s campus Wednesday.
Students, faculty and guests packed the floor of Central Michigan University’s Plachta Auditorium Wednesday to hear four panelists debate what they all agreed is one of the most important issues on the Nov. 7 ballot — the fate of affirmative action in Michigan.

“It is at least as important for the future of our state as any candidate you will vote for,” panelist Lynne Martinez told the attentive crowd.

Modeled after legislation already adopted in California and Washington, the Michigan Civil Rights Initiative — Proposal 2 on the ballot — would ban “preferential treatment” on the basis of “race, sex, color, ethnicity or national origin” in public employment, public education and public contracting.

The measure would close a slate of programs designed to increase the presence of minorities in government positions and state schools, bringing an end to a 40-year-old era of affirmative action.

Most of the students gathered in the auditorium opposed the ban, judging from the louder, more enthusiastic applause they gave former State Rep. Martinez and fellow anti-MCRI panelist Luke Massie over their opponents.

Massie is co-chairperson of By Any Means Necessary, a civil rights group known for its aggressive opinions and tactics. Former MCRI treasurer and investigative writer Chetly Zarko and Jason Mattera, a nationally known voice for young conservatives, argued in support of the ban.

As is often the case with university students, their opinions on this issue do not reflect those of the state as a whole.

While 44 percent of likely voters said they oppose the measure, 41 percent supported it and 15 percent were undecided, according to a poll of 643 likely voters conducted Oct. 8-11 by the Des Moines, Iowa-based Selzer & Co. for the Detroit Free Press and Detroit’s WDIV-TV. An EPIC-MRA poll of 608 likely voters conducted last week put voter support of the ban at 50 percent, with 41 percent opposed and 9 percent undecided.

Outside the auditorium Wednesday, before the 7:30 p.m. panel discussion, 20-year-old Jerell Erves led a group of 40 to 50 students in shouts against the ban that nearly drowned out opposing cries from the seven student supporters standing just a few feet away.

In a moment of resistant resignation, Kyle Bristow, 19-year-old chairman of the conservative group Young Americans for Freedom at Michigan State University, stopped shouting and handed a fellow supporter his digital camera. Grabbing the group’s most eyebrow-raising poster, he took a few steps and posed in front of the opposing crowd, holding it high over his head. It read, “Smash Left-Wing Scum.”

Students and panelists on both sides at times defaulted to political slugging. But most arguments stayed focused on what the panel’s generally well-argued discussion showed is a difficult, complex issue.

“Admissions should be based on academic performance and personal achievement, not race or gender,” said Dennis Lennox II, known by students and faculty alike as one of CMU’s most vocal conservatives. “I find it intriguing to say that some people here are proud to say they got here because of preferential treatment.”

Yet some students opposing the proposed ban doubted its declared commitment to equality.

“It’s not about civil rights. It’s about white supremacy,” said Detroit sophomore Mike Ware. “Affirmative action has only been around 41 years. That’s not long enough to make a change.”

Other than the occasional burst of shocked laughter, students left the passions of the rally at the door. Stopped by a university official who asked that he not bring his megaphone inside, Erves put it away before taking his seat.

The panelists unleashed a slew of statistics — some debatable, some not — to support their positions: women still make less than men; minority students admitted through affirmative action programs are less likely to succeed than those who are not; minority enrollment fell at the University of California Berkely after the ban was passed there; Poverty transcends race as a root cause of inequality, etc.

Mattera, a Puerto Rican and recent college student himself, had the most personal investment in the issue.

“Do I want to set myself as a victim of anything? Not at all. Not at all,” he said. Affirmative action for minorities “is like you want to overcome a drinking problem by drinking some more.”

Massie and Martinez argued that the ban would halt progress in an already troubled state.

“We live in one of the most segregated states in the nation. All of that will be made worse if the amendment passes,” said Massie, whose red sweatshirt singled him out among other panelists’ suits.

In her plea against the ban, Martinez appealed to the history of the Civil Rights Act and the persistence of racist attitudes.

“We don’t change our minds or our hearts as quickly as we write words on paper,” she said.

Voters will decide where they stand in the Nov. 7 general election.

Freep Points Out Granholm Lies

October 17, 2006 at 9:25 pm (Uncategorized)

ANALYSIS: Truths behind debate claims
October 17, 2006
BY DAWSON BELL
FREE PRESS STAFF WRITER

Here’s a look at claims Gov. Jennifer Granholm and Republican challenger Dick DeVos made during Monday’s debate:

Granholm: He “incorporated subsidiaries in Bermuda in order to avoid U.S. business taxes.”

The truth: Granholm claims that subsidiaries of Amway and Alticor moved some corporate operations to Bermuda in an effort to avoid U.S. taxation, but Democratic Party Chairman Mark Brewer said he has no direct evidence that the move resulted in lower U.S. taxes.
Alticor spokesman Rob Zeiger said that in 1993, Amway created Amway Asian Pacific Ltd. as a holding company for various Asian operations. No U.S. operations were involved, and no U.S. taxes were reduced or avoided because of the move, he said.

DeVos: Granholm has “never had to sign the front side of a paycheck.”

The truth: This is essentially accurate, as Granholm has worked in mostly government jobs her adult life. DeVos suggested her lack of experience as a business owner rendered her incapable of understanding or addressing businesses’ needs, an unverifiable contention.

Granholm said she understands the needs of business in part because she is a parent who wants her children to have jobs in Michigan. She also mentioned that her husband, Dan Mulhern, is a small-business owner, but he left the business consulting firm after she took office.

Granholm: DeVos is “investing in the voucher movement in seven other states” and said he planned to pursue vouchers in Michigan again after voters defeated them in 2000.

The truth: DeVos’ campaign said it didn’t have ready access to records about organizations he has supported. He and his family are generous supporters of a variety of charities and nonprofits, it said.
Campaign director Greg McNeilly said Granholm also supports organizations that support vouchers, including the Catholic Church. And DeVos has said that he respects the voters’ decision in 2000 and pledged that he will not pursue vouchers for Michigan as governor, McNeilly said.

DeVos: Granholm, in order to stem the flow of Canadian trash to Michigan landfills, supports a massive increase in the tax on Michigan residents and businesses for the disposal of trash.
The truth: This assertion is essentially true, and the governor acknowledged it during the debate. She characterizes the proposed increase in tipping fees, from less than $1 per ton to $7.50 per ton, as a modest measure that would stop Canadian dumping and create a fund to increase recycling.

DeVos countered that recycling in Michigan has gone down during Granholm’s administration. This claim is not easily verifiable since few accurate records exist. Michigan is generally acknowledged to be weak on recycling.

Dick DeVos Wins Third Debate

October 17, 2006 at 7:35 am (Uncategorized)

Tonight Jennifer Granholm and Dick DeVos squared off in the third and final debate of the election cycle. I missed the second debate, but in the third one DeVos was far more confident and less jittery.

He hammered home the fact Michigan is in a bad way. No one can deny the state we are in. Everyone knows it. So why is Granholm polling so well? Because she is a slick talker. She lies non stop and she blames everything that is wrong with Michigan on George Bush and national Republican leaders. Not that their isn’t blame to go around, but the fact of the matter is that Granholm must take some of the blame.

Granholm particularly pissed me off when she said that she would sign a bill that would ban smoking in public places…that includes bars. Individual business’ should be able to decide what is allowed in their establishment. Not some leftist Canadian bitch.

Here are some facts:

*Michigan has lost nearly 100,000 jobs
*53,000 More do not have health insurance in Michigan then when she took office
*Michigan has 1,300 less police officers then when she took office

Team Granholm sent out an email that said she has nothing to do with Michigans economic woes. It’s John Engler, George Bush and Dick DeVos’ fault. I still am curious to see how DeVos has all of this power to fuck up a states entire economy, but the Governor of the state has nothing to do with it.

The email also says that Granholm has done nothing for health care, but she is working on it.

Here is an excerpt from the email:

DeVos said only one automotive plant has come to Michigan in the past several years. “That’s not true. There have been multiple manufacturing plants buit under Governor Jennifer Granholm, including plants in Dundee and the new General Motors plant. In addition, Governor Granholm was supported by the Michigan Manufactures Association for giving a $600 million tax cut to our Michigan manufacturers. “

Note: She only cites 2 examples. DeVos’ assertion is accurate

It is clear that Jennifer Granholm and Debbie Stabenows strategy for reelection is to say George Bush is bad. That in itself is fair game, but they are not running against Bush. They need to talk about the issues.

The fact of the matter is is that things have went to hell under Granholm and she needs to be replaced. Are you willing to vote for someone that says “It’s not my fault” or “I am working one it.”

Alterra…Straight Up Bullshit

October 12, 2006 at 9:22 pm (Uncategorized)

As my rather wigger friend Patty would say, this business with Alterra is “Straight up buuuulsshhhittt; fo real.”

During the first debate Granholm said that DeVos owned $173 million in Alterra stock. And that the nursing home was alleged to have sexually abused alzheimers patients.

The fact of the matter is that DeVos owns $9 million in Alterra stock which is approximately .6% of the companys stock.

The pinkos over at MichiganLiberal were trying to make a big deal about Alterra but after the second debate we now know who was telling the truth.

Our Governess clearly lied because she did not address the question. DeVos brought up the issue during the debate to clarify on Granholms attempt to smear him.

What is with these Stabenow commercials talking about Canadian trash. That big bitch hasn’t done a damn thing for Michigan. We still have Canadian trash coming in and she still waddles around the state telling people “I feel your pain.” If she really hates Canadian trash then she should join me and vote for Dick DeVos.

DeVos Responds to Granholm Lies

October 11, 2006 at 6:49 pm (Uncategorized)

**For Immediate Release**

Granholm Lies Again

LIE: My plan is working.

FACT: Governor Granholm’s plan is clearly not working. Michigan has the worst economy of any state in the nation. Michigan is the only state to lose jobs in 2006. We’re 50th – dead last. How can the Governor’s plan be working when the people of Michigan are not?

LIE: Dick DeVos hires temporary workers so that they do not have to provide health care.

FACT: This is hypocrisy on the part of the Governor Granholm. In June of this year, the Governor’s administration has employed 552 temporary workers without health insurance.

LIE: I would never give a tax break to company who was cutting jobs.

FACT: Just this year, Governor Granholm offered tax breaks to Ford and Electrolux. Both companies have cut jobs in Michigan and created jobs overseas.

LIE: Governor Jennifer Granholm says Dick DeVos invested $173 million in Alterra.

FACT: This is absolutely untrue. Dick DeVos invested $9 million in Alterra and owned only 0.6 percent of the company’s stock.

LIE: Governor Jennifer Granholm says Dick DeVos lobbied for $19 million in tax breaks in a late night deal.

FACT: Dick DeVos went to Washington to lobby on behalf of Michigan workers and their jobs. There was no tax break, but a change in the law that allowed Dick to keep jobs in Michigan.

LIE: Electrolux sent their jobs to Mexico.

FACT: Actually, Michigan lost half of the jobs it had at Electrolux to South Carolina. We are losing jobs because of an uncompetitive tax structure and a lack of leadership on the part of the Governor.

Bullshit Democrat Poll

October 5, 2006 at 9:32 pm (Uncategorized)

Democratic Poll Shows Williams Leading CoxThe Michigan Democratic Party (MDP) released to the media today an internal poll that was conducted with Lauer Research that shows Democratic Attorney General candidate Amos WILLIAMS leading Republican Attorney General Mike COX in the race for AG by a 41-to 37-percent margin with 2 percent for minor party candidates and 20 percent undecided. “This poll shows clearly that people all across Michigan are rejecting Mike Cox and responding to Amos Williams’ candidacy,” MDP Chair Mark BREWER said. “The final polling numbers show that the more voters learn about Williams and Cox, the more they prefer Williams.”The poll also found that 34 percent rate the job Cox has done as Attorney General excellent or pretty good and 34 percent also rate his performance negatively (only fair or poor). Thirty-two percent of the voters are unsure how to rate Cox, which shows that he and his office have been ineffective in communicating what the Attorney General has done for the state during his term, according to Lauer Research. After voters were read descriptions of each candidate, Williams opens up a wide lead of 44 percent to 33 percent over Cox. The poll results differ dramatically from survey results released recently by Marketing Resource Group (MRG) and the political newsletter Inside Michigan Politics. That survey showed Cox holding an 11-point, 39 to 28 point lead over Williams. The only reference derived during a Google search of Lauer Research, the firm conducting the survey, was a Daily Kos blog entry announcing that in August the firm released results showing Democratic Congressional candidate Nancy SKINNER within the margin of error of incumbent U.S. Rep. Joe KNOLLENBERG (R-Bloomfield Hills) MIRS has never quoted a Lauer Research poll and was not able to review the cross tabs of the poll, although questions were provided. Cox Spokesman Stu SANDLER said the Cox camp is not at all worried about the poll. “I didn’t see what you would call a poll,” Sandler said. He said he saw the memo attached to the so-called poll and didn’t see any methodology or numbers that would show it’s a poll. “It did say that Santa Claus’ favorables were at 35 percent,” Sandler said. “I didn’t see his match up with the Easter Bunny, though.” The Cox campaign is not worried about the poll and will run the same campaign it always had, he said. The questions provided by the Democratic Party that were in the poll appeared to be straight-forward and not leading. “This poll confirms what I am hearing as I campaign across the state,” Williams said. “Voters in Michigan want a change. They think that Mike Cox needs to be fired.”The poll was conducted by telephone with 600 registered voters statewide between Sept. 25-Oct. 1. Sampling error for the results is plus or minus 4 percent. The poll was conducted by Lauer Research Inc. on behalf of the Michigan Democratic Party.
