Big Bucks Being Raised In 13th District
Refusing to curl up and go away, Rep. Shelley TAUB (R-Bloomfield Hills) reported raising $154,431 in the last six months for her run at the 13th Senate District, upping her total raised for this race to $267,175. But two other candidates seeking this seat being vacated by Sen. Shirley JOHNSON (R-Troy) are not far behind.

Former Rep. John PAPPAGEORGE, who was basically recruited two-and-half months ago by Senate Republican leadership in fear that Taub wouldn’t survive the general election, reported raising more than $100,000.

And Democrat Andy LEVIN, the son of U.S. Rep. Sandy LEVIN and the candidate Senate Republicans are most concerned about stealing a currently Republican seat, raised $152,557, almost as much as Taub in about half the time. Levin has spent only $19,715 and has $132,841 in cash on hand. He’s received $10,000 a piece from his dad’s Congressional Committee, the Trial Lawyers PAC and Jacob’s PAC. In total he’s received 389 donations.

Saginaw Primaries

July 31, 2006 at 11:15 pm (Uncategorized)

Predictions
Senate District 32: Carl Williams; Williams has a network in place because he is a sitting state legislator. His signs can be seen all around Saginaw. Williams will face Rep. Roger Kahn in November and likely lose to him. Kahn has a massive warchest and the Senate Caucus will spend to keep the seat in Republican hands. (Williams does not appear to have a website so here is a wikipedia article on him.)

H.D. 94: Tim Kelly; Kelly is in a position to win the primary against Saginaw County Commissioner Ken Horn. It seems that Saginaw residents are picking a person who is relatively unkown (Kelly) to a person who is well known (Horn) which says a alot. Kelly has raised more than Horn and put over $50K into his own race. Kelly is the more conservative candidate and I predict he will fill Rep Roger Kahns seat in the House.

H.D. 95: Andy Coulouris; He has raised the most money and seems to be the most savvy candidate. Coulouris is 27 a former city councilman and a Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in Saginaw. The Saginaw News has endorsed Charles Braddock which certainly is a boost to his candidacy. Coulouris has not spent much money yet (which was a good move) and we believe he will be the winner of the primary by a handful of votes. Pictures I found via google.com

Abortion at heart of Republican race
Sunday, July 30, 2006
bflory@citpat.com — 768-4925
Abortion is near the core of the Republican contest between U.S. Rep. Joe Schwarz and challenger Tim Walberg. Take the issue away, and there might not be a race at all.
Walberg is not certain he would be running if Schwarz shared his staunch anti-abortion views.
“I still might be in the race. There are other areas where we disagree,” Walberg said. “But I am not sure.”
Both are running in the Aug. 8 primary in the 7th District, which includes Jackson County and all or parts of six other counties.
Social conservatives like Walberg were stung two years ago when Schwarz won a six-way Republican primary with 28 percent of the vote.
Conventional wisdom held that splitting the anti-abortion vote between five candidates — including Walberg, who finished third at 18 percent — helped Schwarz win as the only candidate who supports abortion rights.
“If (second-place finisher) Brad Smith had won, I’d be enjoying retirement right now,” said Walberg, a former preacher and state representative from Tipton.
Schwarz, an ear, nose and throat surgeon from Battle Creek, says abortion should be legal and a matter of choice.
He draws a distinction between supporting the right to choose abortion and supporting abortion.
“In 40 years of practicing medicine, I have never advised a woman to have an abortion,” said Schwarz.
“I have said, ‘Please, if you can, carry the pregnancy to term.’ But in the end, in the final analysis, that decision should not be made by a bunch of middle-aged, gray-haired men like myself. It should be made by the woman herself.”
Walberg called opposition to abortion a “moral absolute.” He never disagreed with Right to Life of Michigan, leader of the state’s anti-abortion lobby, on a legislative vote in 16 years in the state House.
Walberg says abortion should be illegal with no exceptions for rape, incest or the health of the mother.
“The only exception I would give in very, very rare cases — underline ‘rare’ — is for the life of the mother,” Walberg said. “Not the health of the mother. The health of the mother is fraught with too many vagaries and potential abuses.”
Congress may have little to say about abortion — the Supreme Court and, perhaps ultimately, the states have that power — but it is one of the most powerful issues in politics.
One-third of American voters say they would not vote for a candidate who disagrees with them on abortion, according to a 2004 survey by the Pew Research Center.
Most of those “automatic” voters favor a right to choose abortion, but those findings are on the national level — not the local Republican primary.
During a debate July 21, Schwarz said his position on abortion “hasn’t changed in 25 years.”
That claim does not square with the record, according to Right to Life.Schwarz sought the Right-to-Life endorsement in an unsuccessful 1992 race for Congress and was disappointed when he did not receive it.
“I am pro-life and I am anti-abortion,” Schwarz said then. “I’m a practicing Roman Catholic and a pro-life person.”
Right to Life of Michigan did endorse Schwarz in campaigns for the state Senate in 1990 and 1994, said Larry Galmish, president of the group’s political action committee.
“His position had to be pro-life, or we wouldn’t have endorsed,” Galmish said. By 1998, Schwarz’s views on abortion began to “turn,” Galmish said, so Right to Life stopped endorsing him.
Schwarz said he sought Right to Life endorsements in previous races because he welcomes support from all groups. He said he did not recall receiving endorsements from Right to Life.
Walberg was endorsed by Right to Life in January, making him the designated anti-abortion candidate early in the race.
Galmish said his organization did not recruit Walberg, but it hoped a single anti-abortion candidate would emerge to challenge Schwarz.
Schwarz has received little visible support from groups that support legalized abortion.
Planned Parenthood’s PAC has not donated money to his 2006 campaign as of this week. It gave Schwarz the maximum allowed by law in 2004, $10,000.
NARAL Pro-Choice America has endorsed Michigan candidates for federal office, but not Schwarz.

Nunciogate leak probed

July 20, 2006 at 6:02 pm (Uncategorized)

Recently MichiganLiberal.com broke a story in which a candidate for State Senate, Zack Nuncio participated in a boxing match.

Then they dug up these websites which refer to it as a “fight club.” In actuality it was boxing matches with a referee and the rules of boxing were followed. “College Republican Fight Night” sounds better then “CR Boxing Matches.”

I can see how the people at ML got confused. Liberals tend to be confused people.

Another boxing match was in the works until this story broke. I asked around to see who leaked the story and I heard the name Brian Began more than once.

Began was scheduled to box in this next match but people say that he chickened and leaked the story to liberal websites and on mlive forums knowing that the match would be cancelled.

Also the person harmed the most by this story is Zack Nuncio, Senate candidate who once worked for Began on Beth Chandlers house campaign. Began fired Nucio for unknown reasons and may have an axe to grind.

Senator Nuncio

July 20, 2006 at 4:58 pm (Uncategorized)

MichiganLiberal.com has did a couple posts on Zack Nuncio and his run for the Senate. Apparently their is something wrong with boxing and drinking. The story has also been picked up by Gongwer and their are numerous posts about it on Mlive. My name is even mentioned on MichiganLiberal…

Michigan Conservative Dossier blogmaster, Perry Como aficionado, and former Michlib troll Joe Sylvester (a.k.a. cheneygun).

What these people forget is that their is nothing illegal or wrong about boxing or drinking…even if you are a candidate for Senate.

libations to Jupiter!
