Fr. Gavit (the younger) responds to me
Thank you for your observations. We did the renewal of Baptismal Promises as our creed and so to did every other church most likely. Bishop Carlson gave us the idea for splitting up mass as we did. Anyway I hope you were able to pray dispite the fact I did my homily the way I did. Many blessings to you this Easter Season and remember to put your whole self in.
Peace,
Fr. Steve
My Response:
Fr Gavit,
It was not only at this last mass that the creed was omitted. I have been told (and saw myself on another ocassion) it’s very frequent. I called the Bishops office and they don’t seem to know what you are talking about with the “pausing the mass”.
Maybe you are one of those priests that wont be happy until women are wearing the Roman collar; or believe that its archaic to kneel in reverence after Hosannah.
Their are many of us that have prayed that the destructive liberal policies of Bishop Untener died with him, but apparently not.
If you don’t like the Roman Missal then write your own and take it to Rome.
God Bless,
Joe Sylvester
Secret Granholm Slush Fund
Democratic Governors Association funnels $750,000 to Granholm secret slush fund
Governor get millions of dollars without having to disclose donors or expenditures
Upon searching the IRS website today, that Michigan Republican Party discovered that the Democratic Governors Association (DGA) has funneled hundreds of thousands of dollars to Governor Granholm’s secret slush fund, Partners for Progress. According to the IRS, since February 27, 2006, the DGA has given Partners for Progress an aggregate amount of $750,000. “If this is not clear evidence that the Governor is circumventing the law with this fund, I don’t know what is,” MRP Chairman Saulius “Saul” Anuzis said. “The Governor is using a loophole in the law to ensure that Michigan citizens cannot see where Team Granholm is getting money- clearly hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars in contributions.” The Partners for Progress fund is set up under the guise of being a state party fund and therefore does not have to report any contributions or expenditures to any entity. “Granholm is clearly using a loophole in the law. It is unprecedented,” Anuzis continued. “No other candidate has ever had a fund like this at their disposal.” On the heels of the Michigan Republican Party filing complaints to the IRS, Michigan Department of Treasury, and Michigan State Police on Granholm’s other attempts to circumvent the law, Anuzis said, “this new information is further evidence that Granholm will go anywhere and do anything to circumvent the law.”

Circus Easter Sunday Mass
Fr. Gavit,
I attended the Easter mass at your church and I have to tell you that what I saw was a Barnum & Baileys, Protestant like mess. Allowing children to come up on the alter and do the “hokey pokey” is not an act that I would consider to be reverent to Our Lord present in the tabernacle. Although I suppose it was good to see that you omitted the phrase “you put your backside in, you put your backside out….”
This morning I was with a friend of mine who is a recent convert from Protestantism. After mass he told me that when he became a Catholic he thought that he had “left all of that hokey stuff behind”.
I talked to some people and asked them if the ‘hokey pokey’ was a common occurrence and sure enough, people told me that that was only the tip of the iceberg.
I even ran into someone that told me that she confronted you on such issues and you told her that if she didn’t like it, she could go to St Stans. That to me, is appalling. I am 20 yrs old and I can see trying to attract younger crowds; but not at the expense of cheapening Holy Mother Church. To me, mimicking Protestants is not the route that we should be taking.
Also I am curious if you can cite for me where it gives individual parish priests the right to omit the Creed from Sunday mass? Or to pause the mass and go down to the lower level of the church and “hang out.”
I look forward to hearing from you,
Joe Sylvester

John Yob leaves Zandstra Campaign
Source: Mirsnews
Yob Off As Zandstra Advisor, On To Land Campaign Republican consultant John YOB will no longer be serving as an advisor to the U.S. Senate campaign of Jerry ZANDSTRA as he dedicates his energy now to the re-election campaign of Secretary of State Terri Lynn LAND. Zandstra’s campaign will have a new lead advisor in John BALBACH. Balbach is a partner in the same firm as Yob.
Keith Butler in for an ass kicking
The Reverend Butlers campaign is top heavy and is going to fall on itself come August 8th. I predict that he will come in last place.
Some talking points about Keith Butler.
Butler and Zandstra are both ministers, but Jerrys christianity is far more closer to what I believe as a Catholic.
Jerry supports the Michigan Civil Rights Initiative, and is for the Citizens for Life petition drive. No matter what way you spin it, he is the conservative choice. Butler has endorsed neither.
Keith prides himself on reading the Republican platform in college and becoming a Republican… well Keith, good for you. Jerry has been a Republican all along.
In your campaign you are perpetuating the lies that Jerry Zandstra attacked the Right to Life and Barb Listing. Prove it! What did he say? The Right to Life cannot seem to answer this questions either.
While I have steered away from the fruitless business of the CRs I wanted to mention that I find it very interesting to see who “conservatives” are supporting for US Senate. Let’s just say that it’s a stride short of what a person acting on pure principle would do.
Huron/Tuscola Lincoln Day Dinner
Their were 6 candidates to fill Rep Tom Meyers vacant seat at the Huron/Tuscola Lincoln Day Dinner. It’s clear that almost all of the candidates have not been active in politics.
Christine Young talked about all of the organizations that she is a member of but didn’t mention why she would be a good state representative. Also in her speech she mentioned being a single mother and on her flyer it says “Single mom – 7yrs.” This is of no value and may have negative effects in a Republican primary; especially in the 84th district.
Also on her flyer all of the main conservative issues are covered besides abortion. Her being a “single mom” female candidate is going to raise a lot of red flags. ODDS: Unless she wins the lottery she will most likely come in last place. Not to be too harsh, but she is the Republican Jennifer Elkins.
Michlask and Teschendorf are what you would call mediocre. Their speeches were uninspiring and dreadfully boring. People were whispering that Ken Micklash just became a Republican for the purpose of running for office.
Their was a gentleman with the last name of Polk. The “ABATE Candidate” as I was told. His speech was a good laugh and he surely should not be mistaken for a serious candidate. I didnt quite understand the joke about the beans and the hole in the hand.
John Hunt (Huron County Road Commission) was the most confident speech giver. By virtue of the money he has put in his own campaign, he is a front runner.
Phil Hardy by far gave the best speech. He talked about the core issues and added a delightful blend of humor. Also he had a long list of party service which distinguished him from the rest of his opponents. He concluded by asking the attendees for their vote.
This race will come down to Phil Hardy v John Hunt, and now that their is another candidate running from Huron County it makes the race a whole lot more competitive.
The incumbent term limited Rep Tom Meyer (R-Bad Axe) has taken a stance of neutrality in the race. I normally don’t believe politicians when they say this, but I am convinced that his office will remain neutral.

Skubick’s Capitol: Anti-abortion split cracking GOP
“The withdrawing of my endorsement has contributed to a civil war” within the Right to Life movement in this state.
“There is a rebellion going on within the movement.”
The first quote is from U.S. Senate candidate Jerry Zandstra. The second is from a major player within the established anti-abortion movement.
Call it a rebellion or a civil war, either way you have a fascinating political time bomb quietly ticking away. It could tick away into oblivion or it could explode and impact not only the race for governor but other races as well.
GOP candidate Jerry Zandstra got a call from Barb Listing who runs Right to Life of Michigan. She advised Zandstra that if he endorsed a statewide petition drive for a “life begins at conception” amendment he could lose his RTL blessing. That drive is pushed by two competing factions within the anti-abortion movement but Listing believes it is not needed.
Zandstra subsequently not only signed one of the petitions, he told everybody he did. So on March 27, Zandstra got a letter from Ms. Listing saying, “you no longer meet the endorsement criteria of the RLM-PAC” which helps folks get elected. And she blamed him for trying to “discredit” her group.
Zandstra calls this a “cat fight,” a political “power struggle” and he concludes, “It appears RTL wants a monopoly on this issue.”
“I will not back down” as he’s turned the battle cry into an 11th-hour plea for money to salvage his uphill battle against Mike Bouchard and Keith Butler for the GOP senate nod.
Next comes a harshly worded letter from 8th Congressional District candidate Patrick Flynn who is upset with the withdrawal of the Zandstra endorsement. He argues RTL “has rendered its own endorsement invalid and intrinsically worthless.”
He urges those who are upset with the parent organization to “consider instead supporting organizations such as the new Michigan Chooses Life and others that would not compromise their very foundation.”
Does that sound like peace is at hand?
And to add even more spice to the story, GOP U.S. Senate candidate Keith Butler has also signed the “conception” petition. Does RTL yank its endorsement of him, too?
Democrats clearly love the civil war/rebellion. One Democratic insider says you could write a scenario whereby a split in the anti-abortion factions could impact the race for governor. Another says even a small percentage of defections could decide the race for governor. Here’s why.
Dick DeVos is pinning his hopes on mobilizing the pro-life movement to get out the vote for him as it has done so successfully for John Engler. But one member of the Michigan Chooses Life coalition has suggested DeVos is not “pure” on the life issue. So theoretically, the Democrats pray, some may decide not to vote for Devos which amounts to a vote for Jennifer Granholm by default.
State GOP chair Saul Anuzis dismisses this as a dispute over tactics, not philosophy, and he doesn’t expect it too last.
Also caught in the crossfire is the Catholic Church which has told its parishes not to get involved in the counter insurgency petition drive even though that drive has its roots in other religious groups around the state. So there is a split there, as well.
My, my this is getting interesting and where it stops, nobody knows.

Ryan Thompson
MFCR 1st Vice Chair Ryan Thompson has called the whole fiasco between the Right to Life and Jerry Zandstra campaign and the constitutional amendment to define life as beginning at conception a “petty political problem.”
Maybe in Pennsylvania this stuff could be a petty political problem, but not here.
