ND Christmas

December 24, 2005 at 5:24 pm (Uncategorized)

ND ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas “Twas the night before Christmas, when all through South Bend Not a creature was stirring, neither rooster nor hen” The banners were hung on the stadium with care, In hopes that St. Charlie soon would be there The alumni were nestled all snug in their beds, With dreams of Leahy and Holtz in their heads; While the students at the Grotto, down by the lake, Were just giving thanks for a long winter break, When out on those quads there arose such a clatter, I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter. Away to the window I flew like a flash, Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash. The Dome with a crest of new-fallen snow Gave a luster of mid-day to a campus below When, what to my wondering eyes should appear A high-powered offense: the champions next year! With a large and proud leader, so friendly and nice I knew in a moment it must be Coach Weis As fast as Four Horsemen, onward they came He whistled, and shouted, and called them by name: “Now Hoyte, Now Samardzija, Walker, Fasano On Stovall, On Shelton, Wooden, Anastascio” To the top of the rankings, to the top of them all “Now throw a-way, run a-way, and dive for the ball! We will move like the wind, our runners will fly And just for balance, we’ll take to the sky!” So up to the top of the rankings they flew With a big book of plays, and Brady Quinn too And then in a twinkling, to the sound of the cleats The scoring and wins, I forgot past defeats As I drew in my hand, and was turning around, Down the chimney, Coach Weis came with a bound He was dressed with his rings, and headset to boot And his clothes were all drenched with Gatorade and soot A number of victories he carried on his back And he smiled as he turned and presented a sack of trophies–how they twinkled! Like heaps of gold treasures His cheeks were like roses, his wisdom p! ast meas ure Weis commanded the team on fourth downs to throw Through hail and through fog, through sleet and through snow His genius caused points in the forties and fifties, to hearten alumni and keep our stats spiffy Weis had a broad face and a little round belly, That shook, when he laughed, like a BCS bowl-ful of jelly. He was chubby and plump, and so sure of himself, That I cheered when I saw him, in spite of myself; A wink of his eye and a twist of his head Soon gave me to know, Ohio State would be dead He boasted not a word, praise makes not his day But all now know, for the title we’ll play And laying a finger to the side of his nose, And giving a nod, up the rankings we rose At his departure I heard Trooper McCarthy say; If your sleigh flight looks fishy, you’ll be the catch of the day! Weis sprang to the roof, to his team gave a cheer And away to a victory in the Fiesta next year; And I heard him call plays, for winning that game “Merry Christmas to all. And love thee Notre Dame! My friend Cal in the State News…

Pro-life group plans to petition for amendment
Signatures need to amount to 300K
By KRIS TURNERThe State News
The Michigan Citizens for Life are working to start a petition drive so that an amendment to the state constitution granting rights to the unborn would appear on the 2006 ballot.
Cal Zastrow, chairman of the group, said they still have a lot of work to do and are working to get more volunteers.
“We are a volunteer organization,” he said. “We don’t have an official membership. We’ve got some letters going out this week and I’ll be making some contacts with groups.
“You have to get your legal preparations ready.”
With several hundred volunteers already committed to helping with the petition, the group is ready to get the more than 300,000 signatures needed to get the issue on the ballot, Zastrow said.
The signatures must be submitted to the Board of State Canvassers by July 10 to be on the November ballot, he said.
Kary Moss, executive director of the Michigan chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, said if the measure passes and is added to the state constitution, they will fight it.
“It would be unconstitutional,” she said. “The state constitution is submissive to the federal Constitution.”
Zastrow said he is going to contact larger groups, such as Right to Life of Michigan, to help garner support.
Ed Rivet, legislative director for Right to Life of Michigan, said he hasn’t heard from Zastrow and doesn’t know what to expect from him.
“We don’t know to what extent their plan is,” Rivet said. “We don’t know anything. Our perspective is it was not on our radar screen to do in 2006. Our next year is already planned out.
“We can’t even speculate until they call us.”
Rivet said even if the ballot initiative passes, it wouldn’t have an effect because it would still fall under the Roe v. Wade decision the Supreme Court made, making abortion legal throughout the country.
“We have to deal with the reality that it wouldn’t be effective if adopted because Roe v. Wade supersedes it,” he said. “It just wouldn’t be able to take effect.
“It would just sit there.”
Zastrow said the ruling of the Supreme Court on this issue is not the law of the land and this amendment should be passed.
“The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution is the law of the land,” he said.

I wonder why this person would know before the board?

Derek Moss Whining

December 13, 2005 at 12:05 am (Uncategorized)

Apparently Mr Moss has dished it, but he cannot take it. An email has been forwarded to me that Moss has been sending to ethnic Republicans whining about how this big mean conservative is criticizing him for praising Kwame Kilpatrick.

Well, you did praise Kwame, and I am going to be here saying you did. No amount of whining is going to get me to stop.

Carlson Subversive Activity

December 12, 2005 at 6:46 pm (Uncategorized)

Below is a column in the CMU News. In it, it is interesting to note that this Dennis Lennox fella tried to throw Kara Lambert (the CMU Chair) out of power. After he failed, he showed up on Dan Carlson’s endorsement list on his website.

Chapter Chairs would be well served to watch your back if you haven’t endorsed Dan.

College Republicans in crisis?
Blog used to personally attack group’s president
By Brandon AndersonStaff reporter

December 12, 2005

For a non-election year, the College Republicans have seen their fair share of controversy and heated discussion.

Midland freshman and group member Dennis Lennox III said there has been problems within the organization, and has used blog postings to question, among other things, the legitimacy of the group’s constitution.

“I think there’s some issues between new and old members,” Lennox said. “There’s a general misunderstanding of what several members are trying to accomplish.”
Lennox said one issue he has taken a problem with this semester was whether or not the constitution the group has on file with the university is valid.

Some members of the group said that issue was just a misunderstanding.
“Two years ago, we amended our constitution,” said Kara Lambert, College Republicans president. “The problem is the chair at the time didn’t submit it to Student Life.”
Lambert, an Illinois junior, said the amended constitution, which had already been ratified, was formally submitted to Student Life after it was discovered they did not have it on file and was not voted on again.

“It was an issue of whether the constitution we had on file with the university was the real constitution,” Lennox said.

In a November blog posting at www.cmurepublicans.blogspot.com, Lennox said there’s strife within the group and questioned Lambert’s leadership.

“I certainly understand the importance of blogs in politics, but I don’t believe it is the best forum to launch attacks on other college Republicans,” said group member and Mount Pleasant sophomore Matt Golden.

Because it was posted shortly after Lambert had a death in her family, the posting led to a heated discussion at the group’s Nov. 30 meeting.

“Everyone is entitled to have complaints, but to personally and publicly attack someone for things beyond their control right after you find out their grandma passed away is completely inappropriate,” Golden said. “Some may argue that politics is dirty, but there are things you just don’t do.”

Lennox said the issues facing the group are common with any student organization on a college campus.
“Particularly at the college level, when sometimes meetings are infrequent and there’s some older people and younger people (within an organization), there’s not always the best lines of communication,” he said.

Golden said Lennox’s concerns with the group’s leadership should have been an internal matter to begin with.

“It’s a shame (Lennox) couldn’t voice his concerns with me,” said Lambert, concerning the blog posting. “I thought it was a bit unclassy, but I’m not going to take it personally.”

University of Michigan (Flint) Proxy

December 11, 2005 at 9:49 pm (Uncategorized)

Let’s face it, when it comes to politics Dan Carlson has no principle. At the MFCR Board meeting yesterday he scrutinized proxies that he didn’t think would support him and the one’s that did, he allowed ALL of them. Even from clubs that have never been to more than a single meeting. And even some that have never been heard from at all.

ALL PROXIES NEED TO BE SCRUTINIZED!

Hope was denied the right to vote which Dan based on something in Roberts Rule of Order. But if someone looks up proxies in Roberts Rule their is nothing in their in which Dan used to eliminate Hopes vote. Also he used the term “precedent”, their was no such precedent. Another lie!

Even more blatantly wrong is the fact that Dan Carlson accepted a proxy from Bill Kelly who is not Chair at UofM Flint. Everyone knows this, and his name is not even listed on the website.

2 Years ago when Sam Moore was running for Chairman, Bill Kelly was Chair at the time and he removed his club from the federation (rightfully so I think). Their is another reason why the vote shouldn’t be counted.

Derek Moss, Dans candidate for Co Chair was at Kwame Kilpatricks victory party and while their, he told the press the Kilpatrick was a “Young Black Role Model.” What kind of self respecting Republican calls a liberal, black Democrat a role model, let alone the Chairman of a College Republican Club.

I wonder what specifically makes Kwame a role model. Is it because he supports affirmative action like Moss does. Is it because Moss is so clueless that he doesn’t know what the difference is? Or is he really a Democrat? Maybe he just enjoys getting spotlight because he stands out in a room full of real Republicans. Who knows?

Millers Post on the CR Race

December 9, 2005 at 11:18 pm (Uncategorized)

Below is Jason Millers post on Smash Left Wing Scum. The bold text is my commentary.

Michigan College Republican Election

Conservative Republican Dan Carlson is up for election as Michigan Federation of College Republican chair. For our foreign readers, this is a state-wide federation of Republican youth clubs with a few dozen chapters and a few thousand members. Leadership elections in organizations like these can sometimes show the mood of party activists in general.

It appears that Dan has an extremely strong early lead. Dan has support locked up from Hillsdale College, Kalamazoo College, Western Michigan University, Ave Maria Law School, Cooley Law School, Michigan State College of Law, Calvin College, Eastern Michigan University, Macomb Community College, Grand Valley State University, the University of Michigan-Flint, and Oakland University. He will be getting at least some support from Central Michigan University and the University of Michigan-Dearborn. Dan can also count on winning a majority of the votes from Michigan State University because the more right-wing elements of that club tend to travel to conventions. J.M Wiggins of this blog is actually running on Carlson’s slate.
When you say support locked up does that mean nearly all the votes will go for one candidate or another? If so, only 4 or 5 of the above schools are “locked up”, if that is in fact your definition. How can Dan possibly win MSU? The chair who controls everything supports Dave. She has obviously won a majority before, who is to say that she cannot do it again?

The other candidate Dave Drwencke has support from Albion College, the University of Detroit Mercy, and MSU’s moderate elements.
Readers should be careful to note that what is a “more moderate element” to some is a average American conservative to most. True the “more moderate element” perhaps does not consist of National Socialist, Anti Semites, and atheists, but people should be careful to note what your difference is between “right wing” and conservative, and what just a plain old conservative is to most.

There are votes up for grab at U of M, Central Michigan University, Wayne State University, Hope College, Northwood, Kettering College, Alma College, Hope College, and Northern Michigan University. Delta College will probably not be allowed to vote.

This leaves Dan with just over 50% of the votes with about 25% of the vote on the table and 25% for Dave. Turnout can fluctuate, but it looks like Carlson has a strong lead. Word out of Washington is that the convention could be held at Hillsdale College and that it might attract a major national speaker.
I hardly think the 5 schools that Dan has absolute support from is 50%. But time will tell.

Ian Mattoon, Justine Ivanoff, & Laina Shuey

December 9, 2005 at 5:30 pm (Uncategorized)

Ian Mattoon has been tapped to run with Dave Drwencke for MFCR Co Chair. Justine Ivanoff has endorsed Dave and his slate, all but assuring MSU’s vote.

On top of the the MFCR Co Chair, Lanina Shuey also endorsed Dave and his team which will hurt Dans Co Chair pick in getting votes at EMU.

Overall both of Daves picks topped both of Carlsons picks.

Wiggins Gives Much Needed Credit to Carlson Slate

December 7, 2005 at 3:55 am (Uncategorized)

MSU YAF Officer, Jeff Wiggins and candidate for MFCR Treasurer is a nice edition to Dan’s team. Wiggins is a well known conservative and he doesn’t just talk the talk like many past members of the MFCR board, he acts on it. When liberals need to be put into place he is their to “Smash Left Wing Scum”, as Jason Miller would say.

The bad thing about his decision to run with Dan is that this will be the second time he has lost an election this year, and the 4th time a known conservative lost to a party person.

This is part I of a profile of all candidates for MFCR office.

Economy helps shape Republican U.S. senate forum
December 6, 2005
By TIM MARTIN
ASSOCIATED PRESS
BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich. (AP) — The three Republican candidates for U.S. Senate came together Tuesday night to set themselves apart from each other.
Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard and ministers Keith Butler and Jerry Zandstra took questions from Republicans at a forum sponsored by the 9th Congressional District Republican Party. The event at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church was one of their first joint appearances.
The three candidates are headed toward an August primary to determine who will face incumbent Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow in November 2006.
All three zeroed in on Michigan’s struggling economy during their opening statements, but each offered a twist while trying to woo supporters.
Bouchard emphasized his career in law enforcement, homeland security and disaster response to the residents of his home county.
“What we all want is an impact player in Washington,” Bouchard said. “Those of you who know me know I’m an impact player.”
Butler cited excessive taxation and litigation as part of Michigan’s problem. He said education is one of the best ways to help prepare workers for future jobs.
“We need education that reaches out to all our citizens,” Butler said.
Zandstra said he has a firm grasp on how social and public policy affects the economy. He said federal policy can have a great impact on the state, which relies heavily on manufacturing.
“The place where Sen. Stabenow is most vulnerable is the economy,” Zandstra said.
One of the clear-cut differences among the Republican candidates is their stance on a ballot initiative that would ban some affirmative action programs in Michigan. Voters likely will decide in the November 2006 election whether to eliminate race and gender preferences in government hiring and university admissions.
Zandstra is the only one of the three candidates in favor of the proposed constitutional amendment.
Butler — the lone black major party candidate in the race — opposes the amendment because he says it could eliminate many worthwhile programs, including ones that aim to increase opportunities for women. Bouchard opposes the proposal because he worries how it might affect boys-only and girls-only schools in Michigan.
Bouchard, sheriff of Michigan’s second-largest county, is a former state senator. He re-entered the race for U.S. Senate in October.
Zandstra, from Cutlerville, has been on leave from his jobs as a minister and as program director of a Grand Rapids-area think tank after announcing his candidacy in May.
Butler, a former Detroit City Council member, is founder and senior pastor of the 21,000-member Word of Faith International Christian Center Church in Southfield. The Troy resident officially announced his campaign in April.
Polls have indicated the race could be close, partly because about half of voters may be undecided this early in the campaign.
Bouchard may have the most recognizable name in the race, but Butler and Zandstra have time to become better-known.
All three candidates say Stabenow, a first-term senator, is vulnerable to defeat. But Democrats say she is a strong incumbent.
“We don’t know much about their records yet,” Michigan Democratic Party chairman Mark Brewer said of the three Republican candidates. “But we know Debbie Stabenow has a solid record.”

Yob, Hughes Allegedly Endorse Dan

December 7, 2005 at 2:01 am (Uncategorized)

Today Dan sent an email announcing the support of the Michigan National Committeemen Chuck Yob, and Holly Hughes.

One thing is for sure, is that the announcement was very hasty and had no quotes. The big guns should be saved for later.

By next week, Dan should have all of his cards on the table at this rate.

We are currently looking to see if this was a well wish, or an endorsement.

McCarthy on Dan’s Amendment

December 3, 2005 at 2:22 am (Uncategorized)

Prominent Davidson supporter and New Jersey College Republican Treasurer, Joe McCarthy has this to say about Dan Carlson’s amendment:

“I think the amendment (Carlson’s amendment) is designed for revenge really, and that enough of this stuff could destroy the CRNC and our national federation’s ability to raise any money. We could potentially be set back years.”

Now that Carlson has torn Michigan apart he seeks to do the same on the national level. This much is true, he is good at something politically.
